How I Taught my Teenager about Nutrition, Weight, and her Body
Nov 03, 2022
Think about a time in your life when you were jolted into a moment of truly APPRECIATING the people around you.
Well, that’s exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago.
I had a dream about my 17-year-old daughter Grace. And in that dream, she had a stroke and died.
When I woke up that morning, I couldn’t shake the sense of urgency. I immediately canceled all my appointments and took Grace out to breakfast.
I just knew I had to get through to her.
You see, Grace has been diagnosed with a genetic condition around her cholesterol.
And while it isn’t fair for a 17-year-old to have to worry about her health and nutrition like this, here we are.
That morning over breakfast, I dug into all of the reasons why I built Disruptive Nutrition and our unique approach to health and wellness.
This time, I didn’t just review the basics of eating PFC3. I explained the SCIENCE, the data-driven reasoning behind my 6 spinning plates analogy, and how blood sugar stabilization has a dramatic impact on literally every single system in the body.
And she understood.
Now, her WHY around nutrition is BIGGER.
Listen, our kids are DROWNING in messages around weight and dieting and worth. They are told over and over that how they look determines their VALUE.
Whether it’s coming from you or the community around us, it doesn’t matter. They are getting these messages EVERY SINGLE DAY. You have to counterbalance those messages with SIGNIFICANT discussions around what they truly need to be healthy.
Imagine how different your life would have been if you had known this when you were a teenager.
We all want to give our kids better than what we had growing up, but most of the time we are talking about finances. We want to give them MORE than what we had.
But THIS is really how you give your kids MORE than what you had growing up.
Actual KNOWLEDGE around how to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
What could possibly be more valuable?
Grace is doing great. She made herself an exercise plan, she’s prioritizing sleep and drinking water, she’s taking her supplements, she’s eating PFC3, and she’s working hard on stress, which is a challenge for a senior in high school.
She’s taking hold of her health FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.
And I know when she goes to college next year, she’s going to be lightyears ahead of every other kid there.
That to me is worth EVERYTHING.
There is nothing more important on this earth than for us to serve a purpose of serving others. And it starts with ourselves, then extends to our kids, our spouses, and beyond to everybody that you influence.
You truly will SAVE LIVES with this message.
Love,
Carrie
